American Bucking Bull Inc. (ABBI) Print E-mail
American Bucking Bull Inc.
American Bucking Bull, Inc. is in business to:
  • Record and preserve the pedigrees of the world’s premier bucking bull livestock while maintaining the integrity and enhancing the value of the breed.
  • Provide beneficial services for ABBI members that enhance and encourage “best practices” in bucking bull ownership, breeding, training and welfare.
  • Generate interest and growth in ABBI through registered cattle ownership, membership, education, sponsorship and involvement through marketing, promotion, advertising and publicity of the bucking bull breed and ABBI benefits, services and events.
The DNA registry of bucking bulls was created by Bob Tallman in the 1990s. This registry was later bought out by the PBR and a group of shareholders and named American Bucking Bull Inc.

Since its inception, the ABBI has fundamentally changed the production of bucking bulls.

First, the registry itself has provided accurate pedigree information on bucking stock. There was a time when you could claim a bull was out of champions and there was no way to prove it. Now, the bloodlines you purchase are exactly what you expect them to be. This allows breeders to tailor their program more effectively and produce better animals.

Secondly, the registry has enabled producers to more effectively market their animals. If a cow or bull is ABBI registered, there are more opportunities for that animal in both the competitive arena and in the production field. This has positively affected the value of the animals that are in this registry and benefited the producers who raise these athletes.

Additionally, the registry has provided producers more access to other breeders in this industry. You can look in the ABBI Breeders Guide and find any breeder in any state that has ABBI registered cattle. This allows for better networking and collaboration on putting on ABBI sponsored events and sales.

While the above mentioned benefits of the ABBI have certainly impacted this industry positively, the biggest accomplishment of the ABBI has been the Futurities and Classics that they sponsor for the registered animals. These events allow young bulls, 2-year-olds at Futurities and 3 and 4-year-olds at Classics, to compete for prize purses. These events have grown from just a handful a year to events across the country during most of the year. The young animals have a chance to acclimate to the performance arena in addition to showing off their potential to be star performers down the road. This has also given the fans another opportunity to follow bulls from earlier points in their careers and learn more about bucking bull training and production.

The Futurities and Classics culminate in Las Vegas during the PBR World Finals. The breeders and trainers of these champions are recognized for their programs and awarded accordingly. The inclusion of Futurities and Classics in this sport has been the greatest influence to stock contractors, breeders and producers and has increased the value of these animals exponentially. Not only has the value of the bulls increased, but the recognition of the hard work that goes in to producing these star athletes as well. It has brought in new players and has created the growing value of this business as a whole.
