Junior Futurity No. 2 Print E-mail

The ABBI held its second Junior Futurity at the American Airline Center located in downtown Dallas, Texas.

Thirty Junior Futurity members entered this big event. The youngsters were able to buck their bulls before the big Built Ford Tough Series event bulls bucked that same night. The event was held at 8 a.m. because of the large venture, and many of the families and the contestants were quite starry-eyed during the event briefing.

It’s very refreshing watching the enthusiasm these kids have for this event. Many were going over things with their parents, putting on their western shirts, while others practiced tying flank ropes around someone’s leg. One parent asked their child, “Are you sure you can flank this bull?”They replied “I dream about flanking my bull.”

Each contestant seemed sincere about what was about to take place despite the early hour. After the event, it was obvious the hard work and homework had paid off because of the smoothness each seemed to have flanking their bull. This type event must be rewarding to many of the parents with so much history behind their programs and seeing this being passed on to the next generation of bull producers. One such youngster was Marshall Dillon Lyons, whose father Curt was a champion bull rider with the PBR, and whose grandfathers are Dale Lyons and Dillon Page — how could that kid fail in this industry?

Trevor Terrell’s 659 Spider Monkey had all the right moves to claim the victory with 86.75 points and a check for $10,000, more money that most kids his age would ever dream of winning. Trevor, who normally knows every bull’s bloodlines, could hardly remember what his bull’s lineage was he was so excited. The one thing he is noted for is his big smile and he sure was displaying it after his bull was announced the winner.

Terrell managed to state, “659 is a real small bull whose mother didn’t want him to nurse but we managed to bring him along. He has wanted to buck for awhile and today seems to be getting it figured out. He’s a little crazy, but he sure bucked today. 659 is sired by Wildlife and out of our cow TNT 59 also sired by Wildlife.”

When asked what he was going to do with all this money, Trevor mentioned, “Probably buy some nice bred cattle.”This is what the ABBI had in mind while developing this program, bringing in new breeders and helping them with their start while looking out for the future of the bucking bull industry.

In second place was Cash Roberts/D&H Cattle’s Page 55S with 81.75. Cash was the ABBI’s inaugural event-winner in Ardmore, Okla.

The girls once again showed their presence, claiming three of the top 10 positions.

The big winners at this event are the contestants. Even though everyone can’t win a check, they all have desire and determination which will make them winners in the game of life.
